Senior technology leadership from a vCIO, without a full-time hire.
A vCIO, also called a virtual or fractional CIO, gives your business an experienced technology leader for a few hours every month. That person owns the roadmap, keeps spending and vendors accountable, and sets your risk and security priorities.
Proudly Canadian. Serving businesses across Canada and the United States.
What your leadership sees every month
A report your leadership team can act on
- Progress on the roadmapWhat moved forward, and what comes next
- Decisions needed from youClear options, with our recommendation
- Spending and vendorsWhere the money goes and who is delivering
- Risk and security prioritiesWhat changed and what is being done about it
Scoped to your priorities and agreed before we start.
When technology decisions have no owner
Most growing businesses have someone who keeps IT running. Very few have someone who decides where it should go.
“Every vendor tells us what we need, and nobody on our side can check.”
“We approve IT spending one invoice at a time, with no plan behind it.”
“Our systems keep running, but no one is looking two years ahead.”
Running IT and leading it are different jobs. A Virtual CIO does the leading: direction, priorities and accountability, at a scale that fits your business.
The leadership your vCIO brings
The responsibilities of a CIO, scoped to the time and focus your business actually needs.
Technology roadmap
A plan tied to your business plan, so technology supports where you are going, not just where you have been.
Budget and spending
A clear view of what you spend on technology today and what to plan for next, so spending is planned rather than reactive.
Vendor oversight
An experienced voice on your side. We review proposals, renewals and performance so you buy what you need and get what you pay for.
Risk and security priorities
The risks that matter most to your business, ranked by impact, owned and tracked until they are resolved.
Major technology decisions
Independent advice before you commit to a new system, a migration or a significant purchase.
Leadership reporting
A monthly report on progress, spending, risks and the decisions that need your input, reviewed with you.
How a Virtual CIO engagement works
A steady working rhythm, not a one-time report.
Understand
We learn your business goals, your people and how your technology is set up and supported today.
Plan
Together we agree the priorities, the roadmap and what success looks like for the year ahead.
Lead
Each month we work through the roadmap, guide decisions and hold vendors and projects to account.
Report
You receive a monthly report and we review it with you, so leadership always knows where things stand.
Steps three and four repeat every month, and the roadmap is updated as your business changes.
Where a Virtual CIO fits
A vCIO, sometimes called a fractional CIO, works with the people you already have. We strengthen your team; we don’t replace it.
Your day-to-day IT
Keeps things running
An internal IT person or an outside provider fixes problems, maintains systems and supports your people day to day.
A full-time CIO
Sets the direction
Owns technology strategy, budget and risk, at the cost of a senior executive on the payroll.
A Virtual CIO
Sets the direction, at your scale
The same strategic ownership of roadmap, budget, vendors and risk, for a few hours every month and scoped to what your business needs.
Senior judgment from the first meeting
A Virtual CIO is only as useful as the judgment behind it. AMDigitec brings more than 30 years of global IT leadership to every engagement.
That experience is what you get at the table: someone who has seen what works, what fails and what is worth the money.
- Global IT service delivery
- Enterprise infrastructure and data centres
- M&A technology integration
- Business continuity and recovery
Common questions
What leaders usually ask before bringing in a Virtual CIO.
How is a Virtual CIO different from managed IT?
Managed IT keeps your systems running and supports your people. A Virtual CIO decides where your technology should go and makes sure the money and effort get it there. You can have either one, or both.
Is a vCIO the same as a fractional CIO?
Yes. Both describe the same role: technology leadership delivered part time instead of as a full-time hire. The title varies by provider; the responsibilities do not. How to choose the right model for your business
We already have an IT provider. Do we need to change?
No. A Virtual CIO works alongside your internal IT or your current provider and helps you get more value from them.
How much time does a Virtual CIO spend with us?
It is scoped to your priorities and agreed before we start, typically a few focused hours each month. The scope can be adjusted as your needs change.
How is it priced?
Every engagement is priced to its scope and quoted before any work begins.
Will you need access to our systems?
Only what the work requires. Access is named, logged and removed when it is no longer needed, and you keep ownership of every administrator account.
Give your technology a leader.
Start with a conversation about your business and where technology should take it. We will tell you honestly whether a Virtual CIO is the right fit.
